Arrow words, not crosswords

The grid is full — no black squares — and the clues live inside it. An arrow says where to write the answer. That is the French and Brazilian tradition of the genre, and it is the one we serve.

How a puzzle is made

A solver first fills the grid from a per-language dictionary, under rules of form: no run of very short words, never two forms of the same verb, no proper noun that makes a square unguessable.

The clues are then written by a language model guided by a repertoire of devices, and checked: an automatic reviewer must recover each answer from the clue alone, never seeing it. One puzzle in four also passes under human eyes.

What we refuse

Grammatical metalanguage, translation dressed up as a clue, fill-in-the-blank used again and again, the one-word clue. These are not wishes: the server counts them and rejects what goes over.

Four languages, never translated

French, Brazilian Portuguese, German and English each have their own dictionary and references. A puzzle is never a translation of another: wordplay does not travel.
